WCF is a new development situated on the Old Street Roundabout in London. During development we were contacted by Derwent to create a film explaining why this space was perfect for businesses to move into. The the main idea behind the construction of this site was to build a space that negates the need for excessive and expensive climate control systems. And instead, through simple sustainability principles, put people in charge of their environment.
The designs we As we only had plans to go off and some early CAD references we decided to go down a stylised approach. The the style was built out using 1920’s style imagery and typefaces and the term White Collar is a play on the type of people that used to work in these types of spaces.
"We’ve called it White Collar Factory for a reason. A hundred years ago factories were for the traditional blue-collar worker. Today it’s a newer “factory” of ideas and innovation for the mobile white-collar worker."
We produced this film (above) as a fun way to show off the 5 key principles of the space and why it stood out from others around. We had a small shoot down in London where we filmed the actors before taking the footage into After Effects and produced this stop motion style we used in the final piece. We then dropped them into stylised renders of the studio space we had received from the architect which used their limited colour palette.

As well as this we created this location film (which you can see below). This was made to convince potential moving businesses to setup in this up-and-coming part of London. All of the footage was shot by ourselves in surrounding studios and restaurants showing why you should consider White Collar Factory.
The development has been hugely successful, hailed as very forward thinking in the way it promotes a greener way of working.
It won the RIBA London Award 2018 and RIBA National Award 2018 because of its ambition and level of innovation. It’s great to see recognition coming to a space that is trying to change the ideals of how we work. Hopefully we helped them in this journey and I look forward to visiting the space one day to see it finished.
